A month ago today we posted Universal Studios'
official press release, formally announcing the debut of
Battlestar Galactica - The Plan on DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc this coming
October 27th. Yesterday Amazon.com updated their
pre-order listing for the Blu-ray version of
The Plan, showing a new release date of December 29th. Our readers sent in numerous e-mails asking about a possible delay!
We immediately checked with Universal's password-protected press site, and with their open-to-the-public consumer site as well, and both of these showed that October 27th was still the date, for both Blu-ray and DVD. Still, we wanted to be certain, so we directly asked our contacts at the studio themselves. Our thanks to the studio for a quick response about this: they confirmed that the release date for both formats was still on October 27th.
Since then, Universal has gotten with Amazon, and the big e-tailer has corrected their listing to show the proper release date. Our thanks to everybody who asked...we had actually noticed the change before the first e-mail arrived, and were quite worried ourselves!
One more thing: extras. The press release for
The Plan listed all of the bonus material for both the
DVD and Blu-ray versions, and went into detail about most of them. However, one that didn't get any description was the "Filmmaker Commentary." We're pleased to now bring you the details about that: you'll get a "
Feature Commentary with Director/Star Edward James Olmos and Executive Producer/Writer Jane Espenson."
Additionally, the "Behind
The Plan" featurette about the visual effects of this production has been renamed "The Magic Behind
The Plan." Those supplements are both available on either the standard or high-def format releases. Finally, we're also pleased to pass along to you that the Blu-ray version of
Battlestar Galactica - The Plan has added support for the D-Box as well, in case you happen to own one of those cool motion-control units.
