As you're probably aware, Amazon has posted a number of "pre-announcement" pre-order listings lately, allowing you lock in your copy of various upcoming TV-DVD titles...even though they haven't actually been put on the official studio schedule just yet. We've posted news about quite a few of these in recent weeks, but we've found even more new ones to tell you about. So we're bringing you a few special Saturday posts to tell you about them!
One of these is Universal Studio Home Entertainment's
Battlestar Galactica - Season 4.5 on both
DVD and high-def
Blu-ray Disc. Since these products aren't officially announced at this time, their Amazon pre-order listings do not have a release date yet. Instead they each say "
This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives."
They do have pricing, though, showing $49.98 SRP for the standard DVD, and $69.98 SRP for the high-def BD version (but you can pre-purchase either of them right now, reserving your copy at a discounted cost). No other details are available yet, nor anything resembling official studio-provided cover art (just some temp promo art on the DVD listing).
But Amazon's new pre-order listings for the now-finished series doesn't end there! As we
reported earlier this week, Universal is preparing a
July 28th release of
Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Series (note that
Season 4.5 is extremely likely to ship on the same date); below you see package art for that set, screen-captured from a trailer which appears on next Tuesday's DVD release of the spin-off show
Caprica.
As of today, Amazon is taking pre-orders for
Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Series on both
DVD and high-def
Blu-ray Disc. Since those listings are of the same "prior to official announcement" type as the others, they also are currently devoid of details other than the pricing. They show $279.98 SRP for the standard DVD, and $349.98 SRP for the high-def BD version. Amazon is discounting these, of course: at the time of this writing, their actual cost to consumers for the DVD release is $195.99, and the discounted cost to lock in the Blu-ray release is $244.99 (subject to change at Amazon's discretion, without notice).
We'll update you, of course, when more information becomes available. Stay tuned!
