Following up on this past July's
Blu-ray launch of Battlestar Galactica (with
Season 4.5 and
The Complete Series in high-def format), Universal Studios is preparing to give us more! On
January 5th Universal is taking us back to the beginning, and bringing out an individual high-def release of
Battlestar Galactica - Season 1 on Blu-ray Disc format.
This isn't the first time we've seen
Season 1 on high-def, of course. Besides being included as part of
The Complete Series on Blu-ray, these episodes were also released in 2007 on the now-defunct HD-DVD format. The timing of this new release is likely to be aimed to take advantage of
BSG fans who may have gotten a Blu-ray Disc player as a gift during the holiday season, especially since prices on the hardware are expected to be lower than ever. It's also timed to coincide with the late-January debut of the spin-off show,
Caprica on the Syfy Channel. This will be the fourth Blu-ray format release for this program, following
The Complete Series,
Season 4.5 and
The Plan (which ships in three weeks).
Battlestar Galactica - Season 1 for Blu-ray Disc comes on 4 BD's, running 756 minutes. Video is in 1080p high-def widescreen, and sound comes in with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Subtitles are in English, French and Spanish. Cost is $89.98 SRP. We don't have package art yet, but here's the long list of bonus material that will be included:
