Batman - Press Release for Adam West Batman: The Movie Blu-ray mentions Limited Edition 'Batmobile' Version!

Reveals the Street Date for July 1st

A few days ago we posted a report that the '60s Batman series, starring Adam West and Burt Ward, was getting a Blu-ray Disc release of sorts, but that it would be the theatrical film (already out on DVD since 2001, and on UMD for Sony's PSP systems since 2005), instead of episodes from the beloved television series...which is still in rights limbo, unfortunately.

This morning Fox Home Entertainment has delivered the official press release for the Blu-ray Disc of Batman: The Movie. While cinema offerings (even those connected to TV shows) aren't what we usually cover here, we've decided to bend the rules a bit for this particular item. Hey, we've gotta cut all of you Adam West Batman fans some slack, right?

The press release reveals a street date of July 1st. There will be a regular Blu-ray Disc release packed with extras ($39.98 SRP), and also a Limited Edition package with the same Blu-ray WITH a Hot Wheels-produced 1/18th scale Batmobile! The latter ($59.98 SRP) is limited to just 5000 copies, so be sure to jump on that when you get the Bat-signal. Package art isn't available yet for either version, but here is the complete text of the press release:

Starring Adam West (Batman) and Burt Ward (Robin), this 1966 spin-off of the popular "Batman" television series features all four of the hero's most diabolical and cunning adversaries: the clown prince of crime, The Joker (Cesar Romero); the count of criminal conundrums, The Riddler (Frank Gorshin); the pompous waddling master of fowl play, The Penguin (Burgess Meredith); and the fiendish feline, The Catwoman (Lee Meriwether). Directed by Leslie H. Martinson (PT 109, Rescue from Gilligan's Island), who later won a Golden Gryphon for his efforts, the colorful and over-the-top film featured a groovy and swank score by Academy Award® winner Nelson Riddle (Best Music, Scoring Original Song Score and/or Adaptation for The Great Gatsby, 1974).

Brimming with brand new and exclusive high definition bat-features, the Blu-ray Disc includes "Batman: A Dynamic Legacy," a tribute to the caped crusader and look at Gotham's evil villains in "Gotham City's Most Wanted"; a 360 degree navigational tour of the Batmobile; and an isolated score in 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio (Lossless), an industry first for Blu-Ray Disc that allows viewers to listen to the score only.
