Above you see the trailer for Batman: Gotham Knight, the July 8th release on DVD and Blu-ray Disc which Warner Brothers first announced at the end of February. That trailer gives us new insight into what the producers of this release, timed to hit just in front of the new Dark Knight theatrical film, are trying to bring us in terms of story and animation techniques. The trailer can also be seen at the official Gotham Knight website.
Additionally, Warner has sent out a one-sheet trade ad to retailers about the 3 versions of this release (1-disc DVD, 2-disc Special Edition DVD, and the Special Edition on Blu-ray Disc), and that ad offers our very first look at the cover art for all three packages. As with the recently released Justice League: New Frontier, the Special Editions on both DVD and Blu-ray share the same "prestige" key art, while the bare-bones DVD release gets a different look than the others.
Below we show you that package art on Warner's ad, exactly as sent out (except that we wiped out some retailer-only "links" info in the black margin with the logos at the top, and we cut off the bottom where the studio is basically pitching to retailers how much money they'll make by stocking these discs on their store shelves).
At the bottom of the portion we show you, note that the extras are listed there, and that when you compare it to the bonus material listings included in Warner's February press release, there is one change, and also one expansion. The press release showed that the Documentary called "A Mirror for the Bat: The Evil Denizens of Gotham City" would be on all three releases, but now the retailer ad below shows it will only be on the Special Edition versions. We'll try to get clarification on which one is accurate. As for the expanded info, the press release said that there would be Bonus Episodes of Batman: The Animated Series included on the Special Edition versions, where Bruce Timm selects his favorite episodes from the classic television show. This ad specifies that there will be 4 of these. We're trying to get the exact titles of these episodes for you, so stay tuned.
