Live from the EMA show going on at the Palms in Las Vegas this week, site founder/webmaster Gord Lacey has sent me the details of HBO Video's plans for a Blu-ray Disc version of
Band of Brothers. We've
already known that the Tom Hanks/Gary Goetzman - produced mini-series would come to high-def later this year, but now we've got tons of new info about the release!
First of all, expect to see it in a special tin packaging, similar in design to the
DVD version which has been out for around six years now. In addition, though, the content will be ramped up with digitally restored episodes, presented in DTS sound, and including new bonus material such as picture-in-picture commentary with the surviving members of Easy Company, as well as existing bonus material such as the Interactive Field Guide featuring timelines, maps, soldier profiles, and much more. There was also a mention of "In the Field with the Men of Easy Company," but there's confusion right now if this is a separate bonus item, or if it's a new name attached to an enhanced-for-Blu version of the Field Guide.
We'll have more details and clarification on this when HBO formally announces the release, which we currently expect in the
Fall 2008 timeframe. Stay tuned for more info when it becomes available!
