NEW YORK, NY March 7, 2007-- Hart Sharp Video announced today the 2007 release of a line of TV Guide brand DVDs featuring high quality, original television programming content that has never been previously available on DVD.
As part of the initiative, Joe Amodei, president of Hart Sharp Video, announced that Hart Sharp Video will distribute four to six TV Guide brand releases into the marketplace in 2007, all under the TV Guide Presents... banner. TV Guide will provide promotional support for the releases on TVGuide.com, in TV Guide magazine, and on the TV Guide Channel.
"I have been a weekly subscriber of TV Guide magazine for years," stated Amodei. "TV Guide is one of the most trusted brands in television. Additional titles are currently being negotiated for acquisition as we go to press. I expect to release one TV Guide Presents... title per month beginning in the third quarter of 2007."
The first two TV Guide Presents... releases feature programming acquired from NBC Universal in a deal brokered by Amodei and Shelli Hill, vice president of video, music and product development for NBC Universal Television Distribution.
The first title to be released is Banacek - The First Season, a two-disc set scheduled for release on May 15, 2007. Revisit the suave, sophisticated, and wealthy Thomas Banacek (George Peppard - TV's The A-Team, Breakfast at Tiffany's), who is Boston's leading freelance investigator. When a crime proves too difficult for insurance investigators to solve, Banacek is called in. Special features are slated to include a photo gallery, TV Guide Crossword puzzle and exclusive access to a Banacek microsite.
The second NBC Universal title, The Crow, will be released in July 2007. Starring Mark Dacascosof (TV's Iron Chef America), The Crow moved to the small screen in 1998 - an extension of the wildly popular comic book and two blockbuster movies. This four-DVD boxed set features the entire television series and is slated for release in July.
Additionally, Hart Sharp Video will be releasing Trapped In TV Guide, an original production from TV Guide Channel where classic moments from TV shows like I Love Lucy, Seinfeld, and Desperate Housewives inspire hidden camera pranks on unsuspecting people as they are unknowingly "trapped" in some of the funniest scenes from TV. Hosted by Tracey Gold (TV's Growing Pains) this two-DVD set featuring the entire first season will be released in June 2007.
Hart Sharp has done an outstanding job acquiring content that TV Guide is proud to bring to today's television fans for the first time ever on DVD," said Steve Scebelo, senior vice president, consumer merchandising and product licensing, TV Guide. "This first series of releases will appeal especially to fans of crime dramas and new era science fiction, amongst the most popular genres on TV today. We are thrilled to have Hart Sharp release Trapped in TV Guide, the first ever DVD featuring original programming content from TV Guide Channel."
In addition to the promotional support, TV Guide will provide for each one of the DVD releases, it will also be making available a vast amount of unique content for use as bonus features.
