Controversial #1 British Television Series
Season One Arrives on DVD June 7, 2005
LOS ANGELES - Often referred to as "the female British version of Oz," the acclaimed first season of Bad Girls will be released in America on DVD June 7, 2005 from Capital Entertainment.
The gritty, controversial and immensely popular BBC series about life inside an English women's prison, HMP Larkhall, has consistently been #1 in its timeslot since its debut in 2003. There is even a U.S. version of the show currently in development. The series pulls no punches, graphically detailing the lurid world of sex, drugs and violence that encompasses and entwines the lives of the inmates and guards of the prison alike.
The heart-wrenching stories of the multi-character drama unfold around the women trapped inside their terrifying new environment, which involve negotiating their places in the prison's hierarchy and sometimes making new sexual choices as a result. Constantly challenging but powerfully made, it is easy to see why Bad Girls has become one of the biggest successes in recent British television history.
The series has won numerous UK television awards, including Best Drama (2000, 2001, 2003), Best Actress (2001, 2002, 2003) and Most Popular Drama (2003). The Daily Express has called Bad Girls a "must-see drama," while The Daily Telegraph has praised the series as "excellently scripted and acted."
The three-disc set will contain uncensored versions of all ten episodes of the series' provocative first season, additionally bonus features include an anglophile dictionary and subtitles.
