Back in 2001, A&E released
The Avengers - The Complete Emma Peel Mega-Set, a 16-DVD, 51-episode collection of every episode of the classic British show with Diana Rigg in it as the sexy, savvy heroine. The discs were in their individual keepcases, which were housed in an orange slipcover box. That set, then and now, goes for $199.95 SRP, but unfortunately the only extras on board this set was a photo gallery of rare production stills from the Steed & Peel years.
According to
a pre-order listing at Amazon.com, A&E appears to be re-visiting this set with a new version called
The Avengers - The Complete Emma Peel Mega-Set: Collector's Edition. The new
Collector's Edition version lists for $179.95, a twenty dollar savings on the SRP, and will be released on
February 28th (Amazon's discounted cost is $134.96). The new version will contain a 17th DVD, a bonus disc, full of new supplements about the show. Details about these extras are not available just yet, but we'll let you know just as soon as we find out. The new set is recognizably different because it has a green slipcover box, although the key art on it is the same as the old orange one. We've got a shot of the side of that box below.
If you already own the 2001 Mega-Set release, then by now you may be a tad upset because you don't want to re-buy the entire thing just to get the bonus disc. Don't worry, A&E isn't going to make you do that! Amazon.com also shows
a pre-order listing for JUST the bonus disc, which comes out the same day (Feb. 28th) and which lists for only $24.95 SRP (Amazon's price is just $16.99). No separate cover art is available for that just yet, but here's the art we promised for the new version of the Mega-Set:
