Paramount Home Entertainment has given us the heads-up that
The Andy Griffith Show - The Complete 4th Season is on-the-way for a November release. That's all they were willing to tell us right now, but online retailer DVDPlanet.com goes a bit further in their
pre-order listing for this set. They show it as a 5-DVD set which they sell for $27.97, a nice 30% off the $39.95 SRP. Release date is listed as
November 22nd.
Andy Griffith stars as Sheriff Andy Taylor, Don Knotts is his dim-witted deputy Barney Fife, Ron Howard plays little Opie, and Frances Bavier loves 'em all as Aunt Bee. Jim Nabors came to national attention in this series in the 3rd and 4th seasons as the gas-pumping Gomer Pyle. But this season was Nabors' last on the show: the season finale is an episode called "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C."; this is the "pilot" which spun Gomer off into his own series by the same name as the episode. Frank Sutton is on hand as Sgt. Vince Carter, whom Gomer would contend with for five seasons on his own hit sitcom. Don't worry, though: Andy is there in the season finale to help get Gomer off on the right foot!
We sincerely hope that this leads to DVD season sets of
Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. in the future. In the meantime, though, we're perfectly happy getting the 4th season of
The Andy Griffith Show, a classic if ever there was one! Stay tuned and we'll bring you cover art and any other details we can obtain, just as soon as the studio provides them.
