Last August we
passed along some info posted publicly by an employee at BCI, that the studio was working on a DVD release of Andy Richter's short-run 2007 series
Andy Barker P.I. However, in December of last year, parent company
Navarre closed BCI, and unreleased home video titles like
Barker went into limbo.
Now a recent
blog entry (scroll down to see the post) at NBC's
Late Night with Conan site may have a somewhat casual update about the situation (note that this site/blog may shortly be going defunct, as O'Brien transitions to a
Tonight Show site/blog). Here's a quote from the entry from early last week (4/27), in the middle of a write-up about how restless Conan has become while waiting for his new show to start:
Him [Conan] and Andy were in the hall the other day, waiting to record more commentary tracks for the upcoming Andy Barker, PI DVDs(!)...
Interesting! So it looks like
Andy Barker P.I. is still coming to DVD. Is it sourced from Navarre (owners of the defunct BCI, who may have inherited the rights), or has another company picked up the license for this property? We don't know, but if we find out anything, we'll certainly pass it along. However, this info sounded "solid" enough (no matter how casually it was mentioned) that we saw no reason to wait in giving our readers that bit of hope. Still, let's file this under "rumor" until something more official comes along. Our thanks to reader "Josh" for the heads-up! Stay tuned for further developments.
