In the 22nd edition of "The Amazing Race," a new crew of 11 teams embark on a 30,000 mile trek around the world for a shot to win $1 million dollars. A pair of Roller Derby Moms, country singers, firefighters, twin OB/GYNs and professional hockey players are among the teams who sprint across five continents and nine countries, undergoing daring feats and deeds testing agility, strength and courage.
Among the "The Amazing Race" destinations and tasks during the season: a first time stop to French Polynesia where teams skydived
10,000 feet above the island of Bora Bora; an obstacle-type race in New Zealand, known locally as the "Shemozzle Race," where
contestants are faced with gathering molasses, feathers and dirty water while holding eggs - and with dogs; hunting scorpions with
Bushmen in Botswana; and climbing the north face of Switzerland's 13,000 foot Eiger.
As an added element, this season also introduced a new twist to the game: the first team to check in at the first pit stop earns two "Express Passes," one to keep for themselves and one that must be given to another Team by the end of the fourth leg of the Race.
THEN, in "The Amazing Race" Season 23, former NFL teammates, married ER doctors, childhood friends and baseball wives are among the 11 teams trekking across the world. In their quest to win $1 million dollars, the teams traverse 35,000 miles through four continents and nine countries competing in various feats and challenges that test agility, strength and courage. Along the route the teams paraglide in Chile, plunge into freezing Norwegian waters, and compete in an Abu Dhabi-set Formula One race.
Contestants and viewers see the return of the "Double Express Pass," which grants the first team at a specified pit stop two challenge-skipping tickets: one for themselves and one for a team of their choosing. The 23rd installment of the reality series aired from September 2013 to December 2013. "The Amazing Race" has earned ten Outstanding Reality-Competition Primetime Emmys.
