Two weeks ago we
broke the news that Paramount Home Entertainment and Bagdasarian Productions had announced the DVD release of
Alvin & the Chipmunks - Go to the Movies: Star Wreck. This collection of episodes from the '80s cartoon series, which also includes parodies of
Dick Tracy and
Sherlock Holmes, will be coming out on
September 8th (the same day as a separate DVD release,
The Very First Alvin Show). The episodes on this disc aired between 1988 and 1990.
This morning Paramount has revealed the package art for the
Alvin & the Chipmunks - Go to the Movies: Star Wreck DVD, and we've got a look at it for you below. It is obviously inspired by the poster art for this past summer's JJ Abrams-helmed theatrical film, and it's clear that this
Chipmunks disc is meant to tie in, sooner or later, with the expected home video release of the new movie. That one still may not come until a bit later in the year, but we'll have Alvin, Simon, Theodore and even Brittany to keep us entertained in the meantime!
