Alvin & the Chipmunks - A New '80s Series DVD, with a Trek Theme, is Coming Soon

Also includes Chipmunk parodies of Dick Tracy and Sherlock Holmes

Posted by David Lambert
Paramount Home Entertainment has announced today that they will be releasing a new pair of "Alvin" DVDs late this summer, both of them arriving on September 8th. We're reporting on the other title separately, because it's actually for the original 1961 series! But here we'll cover the latest release from the '80s version of the show: Alvin & the Chipmunks - Go to the Movies: Star Wreck
Funny things are happening where no Chipmunk has dared to go! Alvin stars as Captain Dirk, commander of the S.S. Boobyprize; Simon is Mr. Speck, and Brittany is Uhaha. Together, they must rescue fellow crewmember Dr. McRoy (Theodore) after he gets abducted by a weird extraterrestrial family! This high-flying spoof of the box office smash will leave you beaming with laughter! The DVD includes 2 additional episodes: Elementary, My Dear Simon, and Chip Tracy.
As you can see from the studio description, there are 2 new-to-DVD episodes included: "Chip Tracy" and "Elementary, My Dear Simon." The title episode, "Star Wreck," was previously available on a 2007 release called The Chipmunks Go To The Movies, which has now been discontinued. The new release is obviously timed to still be visible in stores when the home video release of the new Star Trek film comes out this autumn, as well as the planned Christmas Day premiere of the second CGI film, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. The DVD of Star Wreck will run 66 minutes long; video is full frame, and audio is English stereo. Box art isn't available yet, but stay tuned!
