When Hanna-Barbera brought us
The All-New Popeye Hour in 1978, there were a few other cartoons mixed into the hour, and one of them was
Dinky Dog. Dinky was voiced by none other than Frank Welker, the original voice of "Megatron" from
The Transformers as well as "Freddy Jones" (
Scooby-Doo), "Abu" (
Aladdin) and "Nibbler"
Futurama).
During the 16 cartoons produced for
Dinky Dog, Welker was joined by the voices of Jean Vander Pyl ("Wilma Flintstone" of
The Flintstones & "Rosie the Robot" of
The Jetsons), Julie Bennett ("Aunt May" in the '90s
Spider-Man cartoons), Frank Nelson ("Ralph Ramsey" and other characters in
I Love Lucy) and Jackie Joseph (who also joined Welker in both
Gremlins films).
VEI of Canada is going to release
Dinky Dog - The Complete Series as a 3-DVD set on
February 19th. It will only be sold in Canada, but if it manages to find its way to players in the USA it will, of course, work. Cost is going to be CA$24.95 SRP. Here's a look at the cover art:
