Anyone who's into science fiction television should know the name of Kenneth Johnson: after starting out as a director on the classic cop show
Adam 12, he moved on to writing for
The Six Million Dollar Man and
The Bionic Woman, produced and wrote for
The Incredible Hulk, created and executive produced the
V mini-series, and in 1989 he turned the popular '88 film
Alien Nation into a terrific TV series.
A month ago today we
reported on Fox Home Entertainment's plans for upcoming TV-on-DVD releases, and
Alien Nation was among that long list of programs in production for release. Recently one of our readers, Daniel Lyons, tipped us off to Johnson's remarks at
Ilana's "V" Celebrity Site - where he often hangs out and talks to
V fan Ilana, who runs that site - about what his participation is in the upcoming
Alien Nation DVDs:
NEW - 08/23/05 - News from our Zon KEN JOHNSON:
(FYI, Ken dedicated the Alien Nation DVD's to JOE HARNELL)
"Hi Ilana...
In case I haven't told you, I'm recording tomorrow a director commentary for the upcoming DVD release of my Alien Nation pilot-movie.
Fox Home Video will also be releasing all the series episodes as part of a set (which was only available previously via Columbia House by subscription.)
Naturally we're hoping that our Alien Nation movies will follow.
xxx K"
This is great news to know that Fox has made the effort to get Ken Johnson involved in this release, and we hope that we'll also hear from other people involved with the show, especially cast members. Whiel Johnson's remarks sort-of make it sound like the pilot telefilm would be released on a separate DVD from the first season set, we are of the belief here that they will all be part of the same package. Stay tuned, and we'll let you know more about the upcoming DVDs when the studio begins releasing details.
