Who could forget Polly Holliday's "Kiss My Grits!" line as Florence Jean "Flo" Castleberry, the best friend and co-worker of Linda Lavin's
Alice? Or their fellow waitress, Vera, or Mel Sharples (Vic Tayback) , owner of Mel's Diner where they all worked? In 1976, Alice and her son Tommy ended up in Phoenix, where Alice goes to work waitressing at a greasy spoon diner for 9 hilarious seasons. This was a clever retelling, sitcom-style, of a portion of the story in Martin Scorsese's acclaimed 1974-75 film
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, which starred Ellen Burstyn as Alice, Diane Ladd as Flo, and -yep! - Vic Tayback as Mel.
SitcomsOnlline.com has
posted in last Thursday's News Blog that
Alice will be among a new group of sitcom titles in their
"Televsion Favorites" lineup of DVD releases in 2006. These are typically a single-disc release for around $10 SRP with anywhere from 3 to 6 episodes from the show featured on the disc.
Blog writer Pavan Badal is asking all
Alice fans to
post their Top 10 favorite Alice episodes so that Warner Home Video may draw 6 episodes from among them to include in the upcoming
Alice - Television Favorites DVD next year. There are 202 epsiodes to choose from, and the deadline for this is next Tuesday, Nov. 1st...so get going and hurry up! Pavan also reminds his readers that "
All fans HAVE to buy the set when it comes out because if this sells well - you will indeed get the complete first season on DVD. So, this set will be testing the waters for potential season sets for the show."
Our thanks to Pavan at Sitcoms Online for letting us know about the poll, and congrats on being chosen by Warner as the site where this is happening! Stay tuned and we'll see what happens from here, okay?
