Spun off from Martin Scorsese's film
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, which won an Oscar for star Ellen Burstyn and whose cast included Vic Tayback as "Mel," the 9-season run of the sitcom
Alice was one of the big TV hits of the late '70s and early '80s. In 2012 the Warner Archive Collection released the first and second seasons of the show on DVD, as part of their manufacture-on-demand (MOD) program. Is more on the way?
The studio has not yet officially announced
Alice - The Complete 3rd Season, whose 24 episodes include guest appearances by the likes of Jim Varney, Michael Pataki, James Cromwell, Corey Feldman, Nancy McKeon, Gary Collins, Dick Wilson, Brucy Kirby, Martha Raye, Hans Conried and Forrest Tucker. However,
a TRIO of new Amazon.com listings - each with a different Amazon "ASIN" ID # - have been set up now that show this title with an availability date of
February 12th.
We're not sure which one's the legit entry, and which one's are the soon-to-be-erased duplicates...but none of them are accepting pre-orders, or show pricing yet (or box art for that matter). So take it with a grain of salt for now (just like you would Mel's cooking!), but it does look like a new DVD set might be on the horizon from the Archive folks. Stay tuned!
