One of the most popular Western series of the 1970s, Alias Smith and Jones aired on ABC for 3 years, from 1971-1973. Alias Smith and Jones follows the exploits of former Devil's Hole Gang leaders Kid Curry (Ben Murphy) and Hannibal Heyes (Pete Duel and later Roger Davis) (alias Joshua Smith and Thaddeus Jones), a pair of successful and popular outlaws trying to go straight after a lifetime of mostly non-violent banditry.
Settling in a small western town, Jones and Smith must stay out of trouble for an indefinite period of time to earn the pardon the Governor will grant if they can keep to the straight and narrow. In the meantime, they are fair game for the bounty hunters and the long arm of the law trying to put them away for good. Only the silver tongue of Smith and the fast draw of Jones (plus occasional help from their friends on both sides of the law!) keep them out of the hoosegow.
Early in October we brought you a story
about how a newly-added DVDEmpire.com listing showed an upcoming Timeless Media Group release of Alias Smith and Jones - The Complete Series
, scheduled for January 22nd. We noted at the time that TMG had already released such a title in 2010, and that we were unsure if this was a new effort, or simply a re-release of the previous title. Now I believe we have our answer!
Amazon.com has now added a pre-order listing
explaining that this will actually be "Alias Smith and Jones - The Complete Series: Special Edition
" Cost shows the same, at $29.93 SRP, but the street date shown at Amazon is a couple of weeks later: February 5th
. This will be an 11-disc set, one more than the previous Timeless release. Package art isn't available yet, but stay tuned!
