From May 2005 to May 2007, Universal Studios released the first three seasons on DVD for Donald Bellisario's
Airwolf series; the seasons which aired on CBS from 1985 to 1986. In 1987, the show was completely re-cast and moved to the USA Network, in what some fans refer to as "
Airwolf II," but is officially known as
Airwolf - Season 4 (and considered the final season of the regular show). The new cast consisted of Barry Van Dyke (
Diagnosis: Murder), Michele Scarabelli (TV's
Alien Nation), Geraint Wyn Davies (
24, Forever Knight) and Anthony Sherwood (
Street Legal). Also, William B. Davis ("The Cigarette-Smoking Man" on
The X-Files) had a recurring role during this final season.
Fans have often wondered during the last three-and-a-half years whether Universal would ever return to the show and finish it off on home video. As you can see from the below
Airwolf - Season 4 early cover art (provided by the studio exclusively to us, although it is still subject to possible change), the studio has decided to complete the program on DVD at last! The specific street date and details have not been finalized, but we expect Universal to formally announce the title in the next few weeks, with a release timeframe possibly in
the First Quarter of 2011. We're keeping an eye on this for you, and we'll let you know as further developments occur. Stay tuned!
