We've
told you about the delay for
The Adventures of Superman (1952 version with George Reeves) coming to DVD, supposedly due to a hold-up with some clearance issues. As of yet, Warner has not fixed a new release date for this highly anticipated box set. But, while USA retailers seemed to have gotten the memo about the delay, noone apparently told the folks at Wal-Mart's Canadian arm. As you can see from the image at the bottom, the latest weekly sales flyer for Wal-Mart in Canada shows that
The Adventures of Superman - The Complete 1st Season is going to be in stores on June 7th. Not so.
Our sources at Warner have previously assured us that this title is not coming out anywhere on that date. Therefore, we expect that there will be quite a few disappointed Canadians come this Tuesday. Our suspicion is that this was a case of mistaken identity (and not a secret identity, either): since the June 7th date is accurate for the similarly-titled
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman - The Complete 1st Season, what probably happened is that the wrong artwork got used in the flyer. It's a good bet that the newer title with Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher was supposed to be the featured promotion in Wal-Mart stores north of the border.
We'll see how it all sorts out in the days to come. If copies of the 1952 program actually DO show up on store shelves in Canadian Wal-Marts (which is extremely unlikely), we're sure that quite a few Americans will take a field trip and pick up a copy. I know I will! Our thanks to readers Richard Zimmerman and Richard Gerrard for the e-mails letting us know about this.
