Several of our readers, starting with Jeff Martino (thanks to him and everyone else for the e-mails!), wrote in to tell us that
The Unofficial Addams Family Web Site had updated their main page with the release date, plus additional info, for the first-ever DVD release of the original 1964 TV series starring John Astin and Carolyn Jones as Gomez and Morticia. That update is marked as having been posted on August 1st, just a few days back, so it is extremely fresh. Here's what it says:
The official worldwide release date is scheduled for October 24th. Metro Goldwyn Mayer [is] producing the DVD set and 20th Century Fox is the distributor. Fox is also the producer of the "Special Features" DVD which will be included in the collection. The content of the "Special Features" disc has not been revealed I expect that it may contain some of the material previously released on the Criterion LaserDisc. That included cast interviews, and behind the scenes footage. I doubt that there will be anything from the animated series or the movies. There may be something of the "New Addams Family" which Fox produced for the then Fox Family Channel, which is now owned by Disney/ABC.
The October 24th date is the projected date of release, it may change due to unforeseen circumstances. Grandmama may be able to see into the future, but I can't..
Well, this info is certainly in keeping with MGM's switch from Sony to Fox as their DVD distribution company (which they can do, since Sony's ownership of MGM doesn't extend to a majority stake of MGM's stock). Stay tuned for the official Fox announcement of this release, which could happen at any time!
