As we've
reported, Universal has announced that
September 4th will see the release of
30 Rock - Season 1, a 3-DVD package that will go for $49.98 (but can be
pre-ordered at Amazon for $32.49 at the moment). But now, in addition to that season set, the studio has decided to ALSO release a "split-season" part of releases, too!
30 Rock - Season 1, Volume 1 and
30 Rock - Season 1, Volume 2 will both also come out on Sept. 4th. Each one sells separately for $26.98 SRP each, even though Vol. 1 is a 2-disc release and the second volume is a 1-disc release. The three discs appear to be exactly the same three DVDs that will also be found in the Season set release, but are just being split up to be available for retailers to sell in "smaller bites".
The studio has indicated that the first disc and the third disc will contain the extras, which will consist of Tina Fey commentary tracks, Outtakes, and Deleted Scenes. So, whether you pick up the complete season set, or either of the individual separate volumes, you'll apparently get bonus material either way. Cover art still hasn't been officially released through studio channels for any of these three volumes, but we still have the box art for the season set that Universal included in a trade magazine advertisement:
