A month ago, we were the first major DVD news website to
bring you the cover art for
24 - Season 3. Now we have an extreme close-up of it, that reveals why it looks so "low-res." Take a peek at this:
The "pixels" turn out to be 0's and 1's, the hallmark of binary code that is the very root basis of ever computer language ever made. I won't explain binary much further, except to repeat something I saw on a t-shirt the other day: "There are only 10 kinds of people in the world: Those who understand binary code, and those who don't." Oh, okay here's a start: instead of "1,2,3,4,5,6" in the decimal world, binary would count like this: "1,10,11,100,101,110." So binary "10" = decimal "2." And "11001001" (the title of an episode in
Star Trek: TNG) = 201 when counted on fingers and toes..fitting, since the episode first aired on Feb. 1st (2/1) back in 1988. I have no idea if that was by design, but that's a bit o' trivia for you
Trek fans reading this!
Anyway, back to
24 - Season 3: the release has been rumored to be many dates, but Fox hasn't officially said which particular date it will be. They
told us that it would arrive in
December, but not when in december. My guess would be one of the first two Tuesdays, though...enough time to make sure it's available for gift-giving.
Many, many people are speculating that the Region 1 version of this will have identical specs and extras to the already-announced Region 2 (European) version, but we've seen enough tiny changes in our experience that we're not comfortable making that assumption. Fox has definitely not announced the R1 details yet, although we expect them very soon now. Stay tuned, and we'll bring them to you once we have them!
Our thanks to our good friend, Tom Woodward of DVDAnswers, as a partial source of this, and to readers like Brian Edwards and Thezez Coleman for making sure we didn't miss it.
